Gun Kiss Interview

What made you want to write this book?

I never had any intentions of writing  Gun Kiss. It was accidental. In fact, after finishing my second novel, Incognito, I wasn’t sure what to do. So, I decided to go jogging one morning, but by late evening my legs were cramping. I couldn’t sleep that night. While rubbing some heat rub on my legs, I decided to watch an old movie. The actress in the movie inspired me with an idea to write a story about a Hollywood movie star who gets kidnapped by a drug lord. The next day, I sat down and started creating the draft of Gun Kiss.

Where do you get your storylines from?

Everywhere…anytime, anyplace. Anything can inspire you whether it’s a person, a conversation, an incident, a newspaper article or something on television. Sometimes, the ideas don’t come all at once but in bits and pieces, so you store them at the back of your mind. Then you see what you can do to fit them in.

Was this book easier to write than others?

Yes, it was. It took me six months to complete Gun Kiss unlike the other two books of mine.

Why?

The experience of the first two gave me more confidence to complete in a shorter period. It also depends on how much time you need to research a book. If I’m going to write a novel about the Victorian era, I’ll probably take a long time to complete the research before even beginning to write the manuscript. But in the case of Gun Kiss, I didn’t have to do that. It’s a fun and breezy read.

Do you only write one genre?

For now, yes, I write suspense and thrillers. I probably could write other genres, but I enjoy things sinisterly.

Do you have a specific place or setting where you write?

I write in my bedroom because it’s convenient. I don’t think I can function anywhere else. Besides, I only write on a desktop computer. I’m not a fan of the laptop.

Describe what made you want to be a writer?

My little voice told me to be a writer. I have a strong imagination. When I look at something, say an apartment window, I just don’t see a window. I see the window in various dimensions. You could ask the same question to an artist: why do you paint? Passion. I like sharing stories with others.
