MY REVIEW...
When I began this book, I thought it was going to be another
“cheerleader” sort of book where the author tells you that you can do whatever, no
matter what. It is a little of that, but most importantly, I thought she was
extremely practical and will make you be that too if you take this book
literally and try to work through things. I’m calling Jennifer Musser practical
because as I read further, I realized she was going to make you be honest with
yourself, make you realize what could and could not happen. That changes the
whole timbre of this book, doesn’t it?
This is structured not just to let you read through
different ideas or conditions, but to help you work through them too. While the
author may give you some of her experiences, she also includes many charts and questions
for you to work through yourself.
A good book for anyone questioning where they are at the moment in their working experience, or maybe even more so, where they’d like to be. Practical and helpful. A workbook in many ways, more than a story. Excellent read.
READ AN EXCERPT...
Understanding your role and your learnings in your journey is so critical and powerful.
There isn’t a distinction between who you are as a business owner and who you are in all the other roles you play. As business professionals running around all day, it is challenging to view yourself in a big picture way when you are faced with a constantly growing list of to-dos.
Have you felt like your work environment is growing stagnant and mundane? Have you felt like you’re drained by unhelpful personalities in your environment?
If so, that can turn into feeling like:
• I’m understaffed.
• I’m overutilized.
• I’m undervalued.
• I’m bogged down.
• I’m stressed out.
• I’m tired.
Some days you feel too exhausted to be kind. You’re not alone. This is a flashing red light that you are operating in your survival zone rather than your strength zone. Perform for another day. Quelch the work fires. Keep multiple balls in the air.
Meanwhile, you’re not a trained circus act.
