A fast-paced fantasy/adventure that you won't want to put down! Discover exciting twists and turns around every corner in this new children's book.
When the Miller family moves to the small town of Hailsville, ten-year-old Maggie and her thirteen-year-old brother discover their neighbor comes from a magical world, Zentobia. After the amateur detectives try to help him get home, they're swept through a rainbow portal and end up in his world on their own.
In Zentobia, Maggie and Peter embark on an action-packed fantasy adventure where they encounter orange rain, cascade down floating water falls, and chat with talking animals. Before long, they learn danger lurks in Zentobia, where all magic has been banished. Maggie is captured by an evil leader who wants to bring back dark magic. Help is on the way from Peter and their dad, who team up with Zentobia's good leader. But once they reach Maggie, more trouble emerges.
Join Maggie and Peter as they navigate magical underground tunnels, use flying shoes to travel across the world, and race to save Zentobia from the return of dark magic. Will they make it in time to stop the world's last gold star from turning black, or will trouble find them first?

Maggie held her dad’s hand, and they lifted off the ground. Her stomach dropped as the speed increased. The smell from the silver flames leaving the shoes reminded her of fumes from the gas station near her home in Hailsville. “This is amazing and scary, and I can’t believe this is happening.” Below, Zentobia got smaller and smaller as they flew higher. My body is so light up here. Am I in space? Doubt it, the sky's still blue. I have to try this on my own. She released her hand from her dad’s, and her body wobbled from side to side. Cold, fresh air blew swiftly against her face, causing her to squint.
Brit flew next to her. “Just keep it steady. You’ll get used to the wind. Focus on moving straight ahead.”
“This is a lot harder than it looks.” Maggie’s legs twisted, and she circled around. Yikes! This is crazy! “Oh no! I can’t balance. Someone help!”
Brit grabbed her arm. “You’ve got this.”
I can do it. Maggie steadied her breathing and held her hands out to her sides. “It’s working. I’m flying! Woohoo!”
They flew in silence the rest of the way. Maggie practiced tricks but kept losing her balance. As they approached the palace, Brit signaled to the group to land on the side of the building behind a set of dead trees.
Oh no. I forgot how to slow down. “Yikes! Dad! I can’t slow these things down!”
“Tap your right foot twice,” Brit yelled from the ground.
Maggie tapped her foot inches from the ground, and she landed on her hands and knees. “Ouch! That was the worst landing ever.”
Her dad ran to her side. “You okay?”
“Yep.” She stood. “I’ll stick the landing next time.”
About the Author:Routine trips to Disneyland with her daughter played a role in Stacy's passion for storytelling.
Her daughter inspired the idea for Journey to Zentobia on a road trip home from one of their visits to the happiest place on Earth. They would pass a piece of paper back and forth in the car and each write part of a story. Her daughter's idea for a brother and sister to transport back in time through a rainbow portal stuck with Stacy for almost two years before she sat in front of the computer and began to write Journey to Zentobia.
Though she changed her daughter's original idea of the main characters going back in time to ending up in another world, the credit still goes to her innovative, young mind.

I posted Jo Cassie McRae's book here before. I wrote about how much I enjoyed it. I'll paste that review below. My only huge argument is I want another Kate Atherton Mystery!
Review of Book 1 The Light Catcher Murders...
I thought this book was a little slow in the beginning. But it seemed to pick up fast and then just roll right on through to the end in a particularly good way. What I thought was going to be a light cozy, turned out to be a lot more than that. Don’t get me wrong. This isn’t a heavy deep story and it is not full of blood and gore. However, Jo Cassie McRae put a spin on this that made it quite different than your everyday cozy. Yes, the town has a neat name. Yes, the characters are varied and interesting, there is even a deputy in the mix but...there are hints all through this story that there just might be more than meets the eye.
Aside from the undercurrent always keeping you wondering a little bit, I loved the way the author varied her characters. There’s a young computer guy (sorry don’t know today’s socially acceptable name for nerd). There are artists, professionals, retired people. Each of which has his or her own interesting spot in the story. Most importantly to me was a character named Kate Atherton, the series title of the book. Kate is retired, quiet, well not really, and laid back, well not really. I liked her a lot. She’s the calm in the storm. Smart, strong, and cheeky.
It looks as if this is Book 1 in a series titled “Kate Atherton Mysteries”. I most certainly hope there will be a book 2.
Kate
Atherton’s idyllic retirement is going well…if you don’t count
the two murders, the mysterious drone, and her photographer friend
who manages to poke a hornet’s nest of criminal activity, that
is.
Nestled
in the scenic Texas Hill Country, the cozy town of Wheaton Creek
seemed to Kate Atherton an idyllic place to escape the world’s
harsh realities. And then there was the first murder.
Kate
once enjoyed a long, successful career with a specialized, highly
secret federal intelligence agency. Crises in both her personal and
professional life drove her to early retirement and, ultimately, to
Wheaton Creek, the perfect place for her and her former-military
husband to escape what had come to feel like a world made up of wars,
hatred, fear, and untimely death. And, at first, the escape was all
Kate had hoped for. Then murder came to Wheaton Creek—a crime that
a corrupt county sheriff seems determined to pin on Kate’s
photographer friend, Lucy Celek.
Lucy’s
work has been chosen to appear at a prestigious photography festival,
a festival that could take her from amateur to professional standing.
All goes well until the gallery displaying her work is broken into,
and one of Lucy’s photographs is vandalized. A week later, the man
Lucy suspected of destroying her photograph—a fellow photographer
who was angry that his own work was not chosen by the festival
committee—is murdered. Faced with a sheriff who shows little
interest in expanding his list of suspects beyond Lucy, Kate feels
she must dust off her puzzle-solving skills to find the real killer.
Murder is just the beginning, though, as Kate’s amateur sleuthing
begins to reveal a tangled web of crimes that go beyond anything she
could have imagined.
Jo Cassie McRae is a native Texan who has lived near Austin on the edge
of the Texas Hill country for over 30 years. In addition to writing,
McRae loves to read, garden, and cook. Like Kate Atherton (The Light
Catcher Murders), McRae's bookshelves overflow with history books,
biographies, historical fiction, and mystery novels. Unlike Kate,
McRae does not have a mysterious, secret former career, having worked
instead as a rather ordinary legal assistant at an Austin law firm.
I’m not sure you could want in a children’s book...an easy
to understand story with lessons to learn at the same time and pretty
illustrations. What a fun book for young children maybe 3 to 5.
Pierre the Peacock is delightfully illustrated with a valuable message. It is about acceptance, friendship and a valuable lesson in how we should treat people. Come with us as we meet Pierre, a peacock who thinks that he will get friends just from his pretty looks. When he meets Jerry, a colorblind little boy, he teaches Pierre that what matters is how you treat people, not what you look like. A lesson for all of us!

Three
books in one, this saga follows the adventures of Ian Wilson through
the portal and into a magical land called the Realm. From slave boy
to warrior, Ian encounters the dragon worshiping village, Menek,
their enemies the Kaemperns, and the all powerful fire-breathing
dragon Old Stenhjaert.
Part
1. Deception Peak
Ian's
Realm Saga, is a young adult adventure fantasy about a teenager, Ian
Wilson, who follows his father, Alex, through a portal that magically
appears on their computer screen while they are creating a game
engine. They travel into a deceptively beautiful Realm, where horses
run wild, the wind sings prophetic melodies, and their computer
avatar (Xylon) comes to life. But when the two are separated, Ian is
abducted by a tribe of dragon worshipers. In his struggle to be
released, he causes chaos in the village and is banished into the
wilderness with two other residents. They come upon a group of people
who live for the sole purpose to destroy the dragon. They agree to
help Ian find his father deep in the caves of the dragon's lair.
Alex
is found, but not without sacrifice, causing a deepened relationship
between Ian and the Kaempern leader, Amleth.
Alex
and Ian ride for the portal home with the dragon at their heels.
Alex, his father stops in his tracks and goes back with the intent to
slay the dragon, sending his son to the portal to wait for him with
the instructions that if he doesn't return by morning, go home
without him. Alex never returns.
Part
2 Dragon Shield
Integrity
isn't something you do, it's who you are," Aren tells the
confused Ian in The Dragon Shield.
Now
a young man, Ian returns to the magical Realm to fight against the
tyranny that has befallen his friends. But the Realm is a different
place, the forest is dying, the Kaemperns have lost the shield that
protected them from the dragon, and Ian has a hard time proving his
allegiance when trouble follows him through the portal. His struggle
to do right buries him in confusion when he's confronted with a young
boy who wields a powerful magical dagger which summons the
dragon.
Part
3 Rubies and Robbers
"I
will not let fear weaken us, not now" -says Ian as he dives into
the cold waters of Moor Cove to find the escapees.
Ian
has proven his abilities as a warrior and now the most dangerous
battle begins, the battle against the power of evil. Ian must unravel
the secrets of the mountain and discern whom his real enemy is, the
enemy both without and within. He tackles with the twelve-year-old
boy who seems to hold the fate of the entire Realm in his hands, and
yet the pressing Songs of Wisdom call for compassion in his dealings.
Ian leads his men in the fight against the powers of darkness. But he
must also be willing to sacrifice everything he ever hoped to have in
order to save those he loves.
When
Ian returns to the Realm in search of Abbi and Elisa he not only
encounters the fiery dragon, but falls prey to a lovely temptress and
a wicked queen.
When
Elisa's friend becomes a victim of a drive-by shooting, Abbi and
Elisa seek a magical cure in Ian's shield, but are accidentally
transported into the Realm with no way back. Ian suspects their
whereabouts and opens the portal to find them. His entry compromises
the integrity of the seal which prevents the dragon from returning to
the Realm. In his search for the girls, he stumbles upon a beautiful
enchantress who offers to help him.
After
the death of her precious soldier, Queen Hacatine, in a fit of rage,
commands her ambassadors to kill the Magic Thief and capture Layla's
murderer.
Ian
is a wanted man.
A
Taikan slave boy, Rolando, voyages with the assassins. The ship
encounters a squall and is soon battered to pieces. The Taikans
escape leaving Rolando on the sinking ship. He saves the Sage's chest
of incantations and barely survives himself. His intent is to find
Hacatine's ambassadors and return the clandestine strongbox—but
meets Silvio the Wizard instead.
Rolando's
world is turned upside down.
Brad
and Elisa Huntington return to Seattle from the Realm only to be
crudely interrogated by Drew, Abbi's father. After Brad passes a
polygraph test, his dad and Drew have no recourse but to believe his
story. Soon scientists are forging through the portal in search of
the Realm.
When
the old wizard Silvio eyes a woman dragging an unconscious young man
ashore on his beach, he suspects the worst. A sorceress warrior from
the island of Taikus could mean nothing but ill will. But who is the
boy? With a burst of magic, he freezes the warrior into a bronze
statue, and nurtures the boy back to health. The teenager, Ivar,
explains that he is on a quest to discover his past, but a violent
storm cast him into the sea.
Silvio's
suspicions grow, and he wonders why a Taikan would rescue an archer
from Kaempern since they are known enemies.
When
Silvio joins Ivar on his journey, his answers come all too quickly.
He, too, becomes the evil queen's prey, and there's a reason she's
keeping him alive.

In this charming children’s story, you’ll meet two dear friends; Little Possum and Little Sweetpea! Possum and Sweetpea live in a magical garden together, happily playing in the sunshine and growing alongside the verdant patches of greenery.
Come along the adventure as we learn how two very different creatures can become the best of friends!
My Review...
This is a charming book. It's just made for all little sweet peas. It's fun. The drawings are cute and yet very natural. They are somewhat childlike and fit the book perfectly. This is definitely just a children's book. Only 22 pages long. But yet, there are a few other stories here for parents to tell. Stories of life and nature. I sound like this is a 5th grade textbook, don't I? It's not. It's simple, sweet and full of whatever you want to make it.

Jack
has coped through previous holidays, but this one feels different. It's been
four years since he lost his family, and clues to finding those responsible
have dried up. Hopelessness has him so tightly wound that he's often driven out
of his claustrophobic apartment before the ever-present black dog of depression
drags him to a place where there's no coming back from.
Jack wants to be left
alone with his sorrow, but when he's offered double his fee by the wife of one
of the city's most elite families, how can he refuse? She wants him to follow
her husband, Franklin, as she suspects he's cheating and needs photos to get
around the strict prenup. Franklin leads Jack across the city to The Majestic
Lounge, the Castro District's most popular gay nightclub. By the time he finds
Franklin, Jack is forced to break up a heated argument between him and club
owner, Chad Lucas.
Lucas approaches Jack
the following day, wanting to hire him for added security during the club's
popular annual Drag Queen Extravaganza. The event's usual excitement is marred
by the deaths of several of Lucas' friends that authorities are calling
suicides. Lucas convinces Jack something more nefarious is going on and agrees
to the job.
Does the city have
another serial killer on its hands, one who's targeting the LGBTQ community?
Can Jack find a witness? Surely in the crowded nightclub, someone must have
seen something.
my review...
I like this character Jack Slaughter that K.A. Lugo has
created. His ambience alone would make me enjoy these books. Jack Slaughter is
an ex-cop and now a Private Investigator. He’s caring but tough. Just like you
picture this kind of P. I.
This book has a maybe even more unexpected plot than Book 1
but it has the same twists and turns. There is something it does not seem to
have that Book 1 did. In Book 1 if you read my review, you’ll find I was a
little frustrated by the author jumping around. I didn’t feel that way through
the whole book and I did get to the point of enjoying it. This time though,
while there are lots of twists and turns it seems that K.A. Lugo has her ducks
all in a row. This is a well laid-out plot and good story written in a very
readable manner.
What we have to wish is that there will be a Book 3 to look
forward to.

Maria rubbed her belly for a moment then looked up at him
again. "The baby is kicking. Do you want to feel?"
He didn't. Not really. "Sure." He moved to stand
beside her and let her guide his hand. His large palm nearly covered the side
of her extended belly. He felt the baby kick the moment he touched her. Then
another. He pressed his palm against the spot, his legs nearly collapsing from
the memories suddenly flooding his mind, of Leah pregnant with Zoë and the
hours he'd spent feeling his daughter growing in the womb. From the memories of
the day she was born and the absolute joy of holding her in his arms for the
first time. And the few short years of seeing her growing every day and
learning and laughing.
He tried snatching away his hand when the vision of his
daughter's lifeless body punched him in the heart, but Maria held him fast. He shot
his gaze up and met hers, finding it full of steely determination.
"I know this time of year is hard for you. Look at
me," she said, forcing his gaze back on hers when looked away. "I
can't possibly know what you're going through, but I think I understand. I must
tell you. I'm worried. Sometimes it feels like . . . like you're pulling away
from us."
"I'm not—"
Let me finish. We don't see you as much these days.
Ray said he's tried calling you but you don't pick up. He's gone by your place
and you're not there. You've started missing dinner nights. And tonight, he
said you forgot to come over. This isn't like you, Jack. The two of you are
practically joined at the hip. Even after all this time since you left the
force. But these days— We need you, Jack."
