The Love of a Dog

A Chronicle of a Remarkable Retriever

Memoir/Love, Black Lab, Dog

My Review...

If you see that The Love of a Dog is a memoir, then you probably have a few ideas of what it’s about.

It’s a poignant story of a family and the adoption of a wonderful dog. Who adopted whom might be debatable, but it was a well-matched union. I’d say both the human and the animal sides learned from and taught one another several things. And that’s what this book is about.

This is a family’s ups and downs, good times and bad ones, with a sweet dog that needed love. One of those that turned out not to have any of the problems reported to the humane shelter each time he was returned. So, what’s that mean…impatient previous owners, bad dog, or patient, loving new owners too dumb at first to know what they were getting into. Maybe a little of all of them. But this sweet book, even a bit educational book, is easy to read, and you’ll be glad you did so.

The decision to get a dog becomes a journey from high expectations through the reality of care giving and the fun of companionship to enduring love and finally loss. Dog lovers will see themselves and remember their beloved canine friends. They will wish they had known Tasha as they read about this quirky dog and her love of family and fun. Readers can applaud the transforming power of love.
