Amnon returns in the second volume of The Chronicles of Hadúr: The Golems of Beithir. The Blood Wars have begun as the races fight for control of Hell's Gate. Beithir is no longer alone, and the full power of the Druid Council now stands behind him to tighten the Druids' grip on the region. Beithir has been assigned one final task: eliminate the Demonblood Amnon. He will draw on the Dark Assassins and forbidden powers as he battles the Dark Gods shielding young Amnon.
My Review...
I must tell you as I said in the first of this author’s
stories, I am not one to read about druids, trolls, or dwarves. But this book,
though crafted around those characters, isn’t really about them. Its theme is a
story many of us have read often, but with a very different setting. It’s a
love story, one of betrayal, one of war, and of power. It, just like the first
book, The Curse of Ashmedei, would make a great movie.
It is as violent as the first book. I will say the author is
particularly good at descriptive writing. I think the fact that I can visualize
all the fighting and bloody scenes is why it seems so violent. Good writing on
the author’s part, too much imagination on this reader’s, I suppose.
If I have any complaint, I imagine it’s one that no other fan of this genre would have. There are so many characters, words, and terms that my tongue trips now and then which interrupts my reading. Sort of a hiccup in the flow. If it weren’t for the descriptive writing painting scenes that make you want to move forward, I might become frustrated. Snaerravn’s talented writing saves you from wanting anything but to finish a good book.
read an excerpt...
“I tell you it is He—Haddak Ura! Lord of the
Armies, you must see that!” Cathair’s voice thundered through Magra’s Council
Chamber as he smashed his fist into his open palm, his Lycan side feeding off
the angry emotions. I was surprised to hear that the appellation of the mines
was the same as the one attributed me, but it made sense. The power of the
Hell’s Gate would be controlled by the mine itself, and by the one leading the
dark forces that came through … was that me?!
“Amnon is an heir of Hellgard, and he can unite the region again, before it is too late!” Cathair pointed to me, and I immediately felt like shrinking into nothing.
He was unshakably convinced that I had to ascend Hellgard’s throne and lead the four cities, Byzen, Hellgard, Magra and Port Kara, against the Druids— though he had no concrete plan on how to accomplish the impossible. There had been no Deimos ruler of the region for centuries, and even if the throne was resurrected, the number of families claiming royal blood was prohibitive of reaching an agreement on choosing an emperor. Cathair insisted that a religious leader could unite them, but how was that possible with the diversity in the cults? Magra was the center of the Freesmiths, Byzen of the cult of the All-Seeing Eye, and Hellgard had not just one, but two powerful cults: those of Asmodeus, or Ashmedei as the ancients called him, and Ashtoreth. Port Kara on the other hand, was a lawless and confusing jumble of atheism and rampant sects.
about Michal Snaerravn...
Michal Snaerravn continues on his journey as an explorer of his book writing soul whenever he is not answering the call of the great outdoors. He believes that every prose, song, or poetry we create captures a snippet of our souls. Having grown so much from completing the second book of the trilogy, Golems of Beithir, he is enthralled with the creation of the closing volume, Mist of Akhlys. "Life is too short to idly sit by: pursue your dreams as if your life depended on it. It does."
The release of “Mist of Akhlys” will be followed by a short, free TTRPG Campaign that follows popular structures and mechanics. “The Staff of Amdren” will set in the Hellgard Empire, led by the fearless Warlord Dornoll. Beta testing for Game Masters is available on the author’s website.
