What an excellent read. Hard to put down. This has all the pieces I like to read…a good but tough cowboy cop, horses, mystery and a bit of allure mixed in.

This is just a plain old wonderful western. If you like westerns like I do, this is your thing.
I’m not being insulting by using the phrase “plain old”. This one has good guys, bad guys, a pretty woman or two and cowboys, what more could you ask for in a western?

It says that Elmer Kelton wrote 60+ books as well as winning over 10 awards. ‘nuff said.

Now East Coast lawyers and investment bankers have taken aim at the company. The citizens of Chickasaw fear it may be acquired or bankrupted, leading to massive layoffs — effectively destroying the town.

Durwood and his trusty bluetick coonhound, Sue-Ann, fly to Texas to see what can be done. They find a young CEO born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Factory workers with hammers. A good woman, Carol Bridges, who knows her town is being cheated but can’t get to the bottom of how. And lawyers.

Dirty, good-for-nothing lawyers.

MY REVIEW

Oh my gosh…what a great shoot-em-up swaggering character. Jeff Bond has created the kind of character I love. The kind we all need to read about now & then. Not only has he made me fall in love with Durwood, he’s written a story to match the character. Full of suspense, twists and turns, injustice, you name it. Oh, and he has a dog, a dog that follows him around like a tick on a deer. Oops, couldn't help myself. It's this story. What can I say?

Durwood is someone you call on when you can’t handle or settle things yourself. Don’t get me wrong. This isn’t just a character. Jeff Bond wrote an interesting story right around Durwood. In fact, I’m not sure which came first. His wonderful character or his great story.

This is just plain old good reading. I’m not using “plain old” in a derogatory way. I just mean it has nothing wrong. I rarely hunt for something wrong in an author’s book. I do try to point out if something is confusing or  not well written. I can’t find a thing here. I give maybe 5 5-star reviews a year. I admire all authors. They are sure accomplishing something I’m not, but a 5-star book must be very special.

Dear Durwood is Book 2 in a 3-book series titled “Third Chance Enterprises”. Book 4 had better be on its way!
