My review...Book 4 -
Collectors, Cats & Murder
Another
really fun book from Kathy Manos Penn. You know how sometimes when you talk to
your dog and/or cat you could swear they know what you’re saying? Well this
mystery has some pretty special pets and
Leta, the main character, communicates well with them.
This is a
small cozy full of British humor and more importantly in my mind...full of
books. You wouldn’t have to be a book connoisseur to enjoy the mystery. I love
all types of cozies, but I must say you will enjoy the reference to the book
titles, the puns, and the little bits of occasional sarcasm if you love books.
This is a good mystery with a little more depth than a cozy. No matter your
preferences, this is a fun read with some good laughs.
I love the
LOL Detective Agency and I’m not going to tell you what it stands for. I’m
going to be stubborn and insist you do a little detective work yourself. You’ll
have to read a few more Dickens & Christie books but let me tell you, every
member of the Agency is as fun as the main characters. Manos Penn gives us
enough everyday life descriptions to enjoy their personalities be they quirky
or not.
As I’ve said
this was a fun, quick read for me. It got even better when I realized Leta was
just like me...surfing FB now and then and playing WWF. We could be sisters!
Collectors, Cats & Murder is Book four of a series titled “A Dickens
& Christie Mystery”. All of the titles in this series have good reviews
and...I hope we’ll “hear” from Dickens & Christie again.

This is an enjoyable read. Just as fun as can be. It’s clean
with a little corruption and a very teensy bit of “maybe they’ll get together”.
It moved fast. Had enjoyable characters and a little humor.
This is Book 1 in a series titled “Sugar Mountain”. Hope we
see Book 2 soon.

“I loved the first book in the Sugar Mountain
series so I was excited to read the second installment and get back to
investigating with the Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society” – Goodreads
review 5 stars
The cozy community of Sugar Mountain, NC harbors a
secret society of women. The society itself is not secret—it’s the actual
mission of the group that is devious.
Sugar Mountain is a sleepy town bursting with
tourists. If you like quirky shops and original artwork, you’ll want to visit.
But the local kindergarten teacher, Sarah, has a mystery on her hands. All she
did was try to help the fire department and now she’s receiving threatening
notes. Of course, she takes the frightening messages to her friends in the
Sugar Mountain Ladies Historical Society, but even their investigative skills
fall short. How will they be able to find the person intent on holding back the
fire department and frightening Sarah?
Hugh Brockman, the second in command at the
firehouse, is taking extra shifts to cope with the shortage of firefighters.
When he visits Sarah’s classroom to talk to her students about fire safety, he
gets caught up with the lovely teacher and her cryptic mystery. He’s not happy
that someone in town is threatening her with bodily harm, and he intends to
find out who it is.
With every lead shot down and tensions running
high, it’s up to the ladies of the society to go undercover in their own town
to flush out the culprit. If they’re not successful, the fire department will
continue to be undermanned, leaving Sugar Mountain is in danger and Sarah in
peril.
Join in the continuing antics of the Sugar Mountain
Ladies Historical Society and fall in love along with Hugh and Sarah in this
heartfelt and comical romantic mystery.

Welcome to Beldoc, a
small town in the heart of Provence, imbued with lavender and fresh baked
bread! You can idle around, or you can puzzle out a murder mystery.
It is the start of the adventures of a small black poodle, escapee from a cruel puppy mill, who is rescued by Nicole Marcel, a pretty girl singer in the City of Paris. The two become inseparable.
The little dog has an animal intelligence and a tremendous sense of smell, and proceeds to solve a murder, and other crimes by nasal prowess. Mimi gains celebrity status, as does her PERSON, Nicole.
It is a Cozy Mystery like no other!
In book two, titled “Mimi’s Paris Dilemma,” Mimi’s reputation, (and that of Nicole’s), is sullied by an unfair assessment by the public. The little dog slowly regains status by solving other crimes.
Really a fun read. Fun characters too. I began to love this cozy just because of the quaint village and the people too. The descriptions of both made everything very visual for me. It’s true this story has what I call the necessary elements of a cozy. You know, your amateur sleuth moving from the busy world to a small village, an inherited property, and a dead body of course.
I love cozies. They are a breath of fresh air. Only so many murders; only so much blood shed but this story has a little more depth than some. This book’s characters aren’t just all a little quirky in a cute village. There are problems. The real-life kind. It all makes for a good read.
This is Book 1 in a series titled “Motts Cold Case Mystery”.
I most certainly hope there’s a Book 2 soon.
