Praise for HUSH HUSH:
“HUSH HUSH is filled with biting wisdom, savory dialogue, and the authentic flavor of 70's Boston.”
— Cheryl Head, author of the Charlie Mack Motown Mystery series
“Inspired by real events, ‘HUSH HUSH’ shines a harsh light on Boston’s seedy underbelly, exposing an ugly past on racial injustice and media coverage. And Valjan and his protagonist Cleary get better at every turn. With compelling characters, sharp prose and wit, and a slew of historical facts, Valjan weaves a clever and twisty mystery that will linger long after you turn the last page.”
— Marco Carocari, author of BLACKOUT
They are always not guilty, right? Our sons and daughters “such good children”. True?
That’s exactly what Shane Cleary’s friend says about his friend’s son when he is trying to get Shane to look into the case.
I am not unfamiliar with Gabriel Valjan’s character, Shane Cleary. I’ve read other Shane Cleary books and you’ll find in my reviews I love the character. One of my favorite types...a little irreverent, PI license lapsed, ex-cop, and most importantly, one of the good guys. Valjan still has a little of what I have called that “black noir” feeling in his writing. Just makes the story better as far as I’m concerned.
This is a book of some thought-provoking points. Valjan doesn’t skirt around some of the racial issues we have been having in our country. Even though it’s fiction and a good mystery, it could be very realistic. There is a little profanity here although I can’t say it bothered me much. It all seemed to fit the story.
I’ve enjoyed each Gabriel Valjan book I’ve read. Each one can be read as a stand-alone. I’ll admit I am wishing for another Shane Cleary story:). Valjan has many other publications all have good reviews.
