“There’s no time for this,” Alice clipped, “you two are
leaving the castle and then you’re leaving the kingdom. Ashti will get you to
your first waypoint. From there she’ll explain the rest.”
Oli swallowed hard. “I will see you again, cross my heart,” he promised her.
Without another glance, Oli, Theo, and Ashti ducked into the other room and vanished.
Alice turned towards the door where the banging persisted. She raised her hand and the iron trimming glowed white once again. The doors burst open and four Knights tumbled onto the floor.
Alice dropped to her knees and began to weep.

more personal "stuff" about Antony Soehner...
Does this book have a special meaning to you?
i.e. where you found the idea, its symbolism, its meaning, who you dedicated it
to, what made you want to write it?
This book holds lots of meaning in my heart.
Originally titled, “My Pandemic Project,” I started writing this book as a way
to cope with the chaotic world around us. I was manic and in need of something
to do while we weren’t allowed to do much. Eventually, the story and characters
grew with me as I started going to therapy and healing past wounds. Much of the
meaning behind this book specifically is to show what kind of bravery it takes
to stand up not only for others but also for yourself against abusers no matter
who they are.
Where do you get your storylines from?
My storyline is influenced by two things. The
chaotic world around me and also the Hero’s journey trope. The hero's journey
is one of my favorite story tropes because it’s a call to do what is right and
preserve the teachings that are taught along the way. I lined my story with
real-world parallels so that I could give readers a sense of heroship in
themselves and inspire them to speak up for what they believe in.
Was this book easier or more difficult to
write than others? Why?
“The Prince” was probably the easiest story of
my ten current publications. I sat down and told myself to ignore every rule
and guideline I had given myself for the previous projects. The only thing I
was going to do was puke everything out onto the page and clean it later. I had
nothing but time and was committed to relaying the story in my mind. I think
the writing process itself took me only four or five months. Top five fastest
books I’ve written and number one on the most fun list for sure.
Do you only write one genre?
Professionally, yes. I’ve stuck to fantasy
because it's the genre I know best and love to read the most. It’s easy to
create and depending on what I’m doing, I can make up whatever I want.
Personally, I have an array of projects on my computer that aren’t fantasy. I
like to challenge myself and see what I can do as a writer even if those
projects never see the light of day. Practice doesn’t make perfect but it
always makes you better.
Give us a picture of where you write, where
you compose these words…is it Starbucks, a den, a garden…we want to know your
inner sanctum?
My writing happens at my personal desk in my
home office. Pink walls, Star Wars posters, and all my nerd gear on display.
But where the real writing happens is in my backyard. I live in the house where
my parents started our family and in the backyard is a tree my mom planted when
they moved in during the mid-’90s. Under her tree is usually where I can go to
create, ponder, and break myself through to the next great scene if I’m stuck.
With a bit of love, it’s always green back there in an area that is usually dry
and brown. There are birds everywhere and if it's late enough, there is a
curious fox that wanders their way back there with me. It’s like having my own
fantasy world contained within our reality. I love it.
And finally, of course…was there any specific
event or circumstance that made you want to be a writer?
I’ve always been a writer. Ever since I was in
3rd grade when I would fill every composition binder my teachers would give me.
But my true inspiration for becoming a writer is my mom. She too is an author
and writer with over 50 books to her name. I’ve watched her build an extensive
career through an ever-changing market and has been such a pivotal role in the
local self-publishing scene along the Denver-Front Range. She was my first fan
and remains my number one fan today!
Thank you so much for hosting and having me on your page. I can't wait to hear from readers!
